Itinerary of 3 Days Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech

Day 1Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Dades Valley – [327 km]

On the first day of your journey, you’ll meet your driver at your hotel or riad at 8:00 am and set off from Marrakech heading south. You’ll traverse the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi-n-Tichka, the highest road pass in Morocco at 2,260 meters, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of valleys, mountains, and nearby Berber villages.

As you make your way to Ouarzazate, you’ll stop at Ait Benhaddou‘s UNESCO World Heritage site. Renowned for its stunning Kasbahs and well-preserved fortresses, this site has also appeared in numerous Hollywood films, including “Gladiator,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” and “Game of Thrones.” Your journey will continue toward Dades Valley, passing through the Berber villages of Mgouna and Skoura. You will spend the night in Dades.

Day 2Dades Valley – Todra Canyon – Merzouga Desert [271 km]

On the second day of your Morocco Desert tour, we will depart from Dades in the morning after breakfast and a shower. Our journey will take us to Todra Canyon, renowned for being one of Morocco’s most stunning and dramatic canyons, so narrow that it is named after the human throat or gorge.

You’ll have the opportunity to explore the canyon on foot, enjoying the impressive views and the soothing sounds of the river flowing through. From Todra Gorges, we will continue our drive toward Merzouga, passing through awe-inspiring landscapes dotted with palm tree oases and Berber villages. Along the way, we will stop in Erfoud, marking the beginning of the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet, before reaching Merzouga.

Depending on our arrival time in Merzouga, you may have some time to relax before you go on the camel ride, or we might start the ride immediately to reach the desert camp for the night. The camel ride typically begins around 5:00-6:00 PM in the summer and 4:00 PM in the winter, lasting approximately one hour. Upon arriving at the camp, you’ll be greeted with traditional Moroccan tea and have the chance to witness the stunning Sahara dunes and sunset. Dinner will be served in the camp, followed by traditional Berber music and a campfire. Be sure to look up at the night sky for a spectacular display of stars.

Day 3Merzouga Desert – Daraa Valley – Marrakech [560 km]

On the third day of the 3-Day Luxury Desert Tour from Marrakech, you will wake up before sunrise to catch the first rays of the sun. After enjoying breakfast in your desert camp, you will ride camels back to meet your driver. From there, you’ll begin your journey back to Marrakech, traveling through Tazarine, the Draa Valley, Agdez, and Ouarzazate.

During the trip, we’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, we’ll continue our drive, arriving back in the vibrant city of Marrakech by the end of the day.

We had an incredible three-day adventure exploring the southeastern region of Morocco. This tour goes beyond just the Sahara and the desert camp – we encountered numerous breathtaking places and experiences that will leave lasting memories. Choosing a favorite among them is impossible. Our skilled driver and guide, Hassan, remained composed, friendly, and helpful throughout. He not only ensured our safety while taking us to these impressive locations but also generously shared insights and patiently answered our questions. We highly recommend this tour (we opted for a private one) and Hassan as a driver and guide without any hesitation. In short, it was a flawless experience – we only wish we could’ve extended our stay at the desert camp in the erg-chebbi dunes for another day and night.

We opted for a private tour for our group of 4, and we had a great time. The long hours in the car were made much more comfortable by having the minivan exclusively for us. Our driver, Abdel, was not only cautious on the road but also exceptionally kind to us (thank you, Adbel!). The tour itself was quite enjoyable, with the desert arrival being a highlight. The camp accommodation was also excellent. Despite a misunderstanding, Marrakech Desert Trips handled it remarkably well. Their assistance is top-notch, so you can trust them without any concerns.

This well-organized and spectacular 3-day journey from Marrakech to Merzouga was truly unforgettable! Lahcen, our guide, was exceptional. Traveling with my two children, ages 17 and 21, Lahcen’s informative and professional approach made the trip enjoyable and smooth. Despite the extensive driving required to see so much in a short time, it was absolutely worth it. We felt safe throughout the journey thanks to Lahcen’s skilled driving. The highlight of the trip was definitely the stunning dunes and camel riding experience. We’re already looking forward to returning and exploring more of Morocco in the near future!
