Itinerary: 3 Day Morocco Desert Tour From Fes to Marrakech

Day 1Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

To begin our breathtaking 3 day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech starts with a pickup from your accommodation. This sets the stage for an unforgettable journey through Morocco’s stunning landscapes. Starting, as we drive south from Fes, our first stop is Ifrane. This is known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Ifrane is nestled in the heart of the lush Middle Atlas mountains.

Furthermore, en route to the Sahara, we’ll take a woodland pause in the cedar forests. This provides you a rare opportunity to observe the indigenous Barbary Monkeys amidst their natural habitat. Continuing on, we wind through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass and traverse the Middle Atlas plateau towards Midelt, the awe-inspiring Ziz Gorges unveil their splendor. Your senses will awaken to the dramatic shifts in the scenery before reaching Errachidia, where the majestic Sahara looms on the horizon!

After enjoying a local lunch, the journey continues along the winding paths of the Ziz Valley, leading to the palm-lined regions of Erfoud and Rissani. Finally, upon our arrival in the golden sandy dunes of Merzouga, we’ll be warmly greeted with a glass of mint tea, a gesture of Moroccan hospitality. Securely store your luggage and saddle up for an unforgettable camel ride across the rolling sands of Erg Chebbi. These are the highest dunes in North Africa, blending exhilaration with the tranquility of the Sahara.

The gentle sway of your camel and the mesmerizing landscape make the trek to our Berber camp a remarkable experience, where luxury awaits! At the campsite, you can enjoy the Berber drum music while dancing around the campfire under the open sky of shiny stars. Dinner and Overnight stay in the camp

Day 2Merzouga desert – Rissani – Erfod – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Witness a breathtaking sunrise over the vast sea of dunes on your 3 day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech. First, savor a hearty breakfast and a refreshing hot shower at the camp before we voyage back to Merzouga. You can chose either by the traditional camel ride or an exhilarating 4WD option.

Then, embark on a journey from the Sahara Desert to Tinghir. Tinghir is affectionately termed “the city of the mountain” in the native Tamazight language. Experience the stark contrast of lush palm trees set against the unique hue of their houses as we traverse a route celebrated for its striking contrasts.

Then, prepare for an encounter with the towering Todra Gorge, showcasing majestic rock walls that ascend beyond 200 meters—a testament to nature’s grandeur. Following our exploration, we’ll proceed through the scenic path to the Dades Valley. This renowned Berber village is famed for its high gorges and panoramic views stretching to the Atlas Mountains, now a whisper on the horizon. The charm of the second night of the Fes-to-Marrakech desert tour promises an evening as enchanting as the day’s adventure.

Day 3Dades Valley – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

Embrace the final day of your Fes-to-Marrakech Desert Tour 3 Days as you traverse the enchanting Dades Valley. The scented tracks of the Valley of Roses, culminate in a stop at the cinematic jewel of Ouarzazate to explore the Taourirt Kasbah. Your journey continues around 25 km to the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the backdrop of iconic films like “Lawrence of Arabia,” “The Sheltering Sky,” and “Babel.”

Finally, navigate through the winding Tizi N-Tichka pass. You will see the breathtaking vistas of the High Atlas mountains as you draw closer to the vibrant allure of Marrakech. Amidst the majesty of the Atlas Mountains, you’ll find a seamless blend of tradition and nature before descending into the bustle of the “Red City.” You’ll bid farewell to your driver there, the perfect end to an unforgettable Sahara adventure.

We had a really great experience traveling to the Sahara Desert and Fez with our guide, Mohamed. We would recommend this trip to anyone. We actually wish we could stay another day in the desert; we loved it so much. The drive is long, but well worth it, with a lot of interesting stops along the way. I would recommend the private tour if you’re looking for more flexibility, that’s what we did and thought it was great!

I’ve just done a 3-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakeh and had a fabulous time. Our driver and guide, Hamid took care of us every step of the way. He shared interesting stories and cultural insights, made us feel very comfortable and ensured we had a great time on the trip. We saw Berber villages, spent one night in a lovely riad with a swimming pool and a stunning view of Monkey Fingers and the second night was at the desert. The highlight of the tour was a camel ride and watching the sun rise over Sahara. Highly recommended
